Bajaj has been testing the Pulsar SS 200 for a long time
now. Images of the bike having reached dealerships came in months ago
and yet, Bajaj hasn’t given any hints of when they plan to launch the
machine. We have just received a fresh spy shot of the SS 200 or
possibly the SS 400. Our spies tell us that the bike appeared bigger and
lengthier than the test mules seen before, but as the spy shot looks
similar to what we have seen so far, we can’t say if it’s the SS 400
with absolute certainty.
The test mule looks more or less the same as the concept seen at the
auto expo. 10 spoke alloy wheels, dual disc brakes, under belly exhaust,
split seats, dual projector headlamps, LED tail lamp, day time running
LEDs are among the features to expect on the SS 200. The SS 400 will
receive ABS as standard while the SS 200 may offer is as well, but as an
option. The seats on the SS series have been smartly designed as they
are sporty, but the pillion seat isn’t at a steep incline. Hence sitting
on the bike for a pillion will not involve lying on the rider too much.
The test mule doesn’t seem to have grab rails and will have
indentations integrated into the body for pillion grip.
The concept seen at the expo has been carried forward into the
production spec in more or less the exact same design. With the
exception of the plastic mudguard that hugs the tyre and the smaller
disc brake on the test mule, there’s little difference between the SS
400 concept and the production ready model (The SS 200 and SS 400 will
have the same design and styling with minute alterations). The SS 200
will be powered by the same engine as the Pulsar 200 NS i.e. single
cylinder, 4-stroke, 199.5cc engine that produces a maximum power output
of 23.52 PS at 9500 rpm and 18.3 Nm of torque at 8000 rpm. Bajaj may
re-tune the SS to deliver a better low-end torque.
