Japanese automaker Nissan has appointed
Ashok Leyland’s engineering division, Defiance Technologies, to design
and develop the low cost Datsun small car, which will be sold in
emerging markets such as India, Russia and Indonesia. Previously, it was
anticipated that Nissan would co-develop the small car with Renault.
Now that Defiance Technologies has been roped in to design and develop
the Datsun small car, crucial new details have emerged about the car.
Firstly, the design and development will happen right here in India and
will focus on local usage patterns and road conditions.

Andy Palmer's Version of Nissan Evalia Vs Ahok Leyland Stile
Every other month, a mover and shaker at Nissan Motor Company, a certain
Andy Palmer visits India, one of the key markets for the Japanese
automaker, from where a big chunk of the firm’s exports come from. Mr
Palmer also visits Ashok Leyland, an Indian utility vehicle major that
Nissan has a joint venture with, to manufacture the Evalia MPV, which
incidentally is the Indian version of the best selling NV200 MPV that
Nissan sells globally. In his latest visit to India, Mr Palmer has made a
few comments about the positioning of the Nissan Evalia vis-a-vis the
Ashok Leyland Stile.
