2013 Mahindra Mini Xylo MPV; Mahindra Verito Compact Sedan Render

The 2012 Mini Xylo MPV, which continues to be rigorously tested by Mahindra could be launched by August 2012. The Mini Xylo MPV will feature a sub 4 meter length, giving the automaker attractive excise duty benefits, which are expected to be passed on to the car buyer. The Mini Xyo MPV will be a very unique vehicle in its class, as it will be the first MPV in India, to feature a sub 4 meter length. Despite the small dimensions, the Mini Xylo MPV is expected to seat seven adults, although the last two seats, being jump seats at the rear of the car could be a squeeze.

2013 Mahindra Mini Xylo MPV

Mahindra is expected to give B-segment hatchbacks a run for their monies with the Mini Xylo MPV, which is expected to be priced between 4-5 lakh rupees. Mahindra isn’t new to the game of launching products with disruptive marketing strategies. One example is the Xylo, which was positioned as a “sedan killer”. Similarly, the XUV500 crossover continues to run rings around D-segment sedans, mainly due to its ultra competitive pricing. So, expect the Mini Xylo MPV to be yet another product that could come with disruptive pricing, to create ripples in the B-segment hatchback space.

A 1.5 Liter, 3 cylinder turbo diesel engine is expected to power the Mini Xylo MPV. Coming to the other big launch from Mahindra for 2012, the sub 4 meter Verito is what the automaker will launch at the end of 2012. Like the Mini Xylo, the Verito being a sub 4 meter car will get excise duty benefits, allowing Mahindra to price the car quite competitively. On whether the sub 4 meter Verito will be a hatchback or a notchback design is something that remains unknown at this point in time. That said, the car will be positioned under the full size sedan as a cut price variant.

While the same 1.5 Liter K9K Renault sourced turbo diesel engine good for 65 Bhp-160 Nm will be used on the sub 4 meter Verito, the car is also expected to come with a new front end design along with a few other cosmetic changes to keep it fresh. 2013 will see another compact sedan being launched in India, in the form of the Tata Manza CS, that Tata Motors is said to be developing currently. The arrival of the Manza CS in 2013 will take the number of compact sedans in India to 4. India is perhaps the only market in the world where compact sedans measuring under 4 meters in length are sold.
