Ford India is testing a facelifted Figo hatchback in and around Chennai.
The hatchback, which has just completed two summers in India is due for
a mid career facelift amidst intensifying competition in the B+
hatchback space. Now, a rumor has surfaced about Ford delivering two new
features on the facelifted Figo, in the form of a push button start and
a keyless entry option. An experimental Figo hatchback with these two
features forms the basis of this rumor, which has originated on
TheAutomotiveIndia, a popular car and motorcycle online forum.
The push button start system on the
experimental Figo is quite unique in itself considering that the button
can be used for three different functions. Apart from starting and
stopping the engine, the push button start on the Figo is said to also
enable the music system and the electricals. Pressing the push button
start once will switch on the music system; Pressing the button twice
would result in the electricals of the car functioning; Pressing the
button thrice will get the car’s engine running. While these three modes
make the system a little complicated, only one of the modes could make
it to production considering that this feature is being showcased on an
experimental car.
Also, pressing the button thrice just to
start the car could be more of an inconvenience rather that just turning
the key to start the car, as is the case in most conventional cars. So,
this is something that could change on the production variants if
indeed Ford begins offering the push button start on the facelifted
Figo. Also, the location of the push button near the gear shift is quite
awkward and looks more like an after market hack job. Another feature
that the Figo could get is that of keyless entry, in which the driver
has to simply press a sensor located on the door handle to get into the
car.
However, the key fob should be with the driver for such access to be possible. Months ago, Ford gave the top end Titanium versions of the Figo three new features in the form of a USB connectivity option for the music system, a steering wheel adjustable for tilt and alloy wheels. Adding two more features in the form of the push button start and keyless entry will only make the Figo an even more desirable car to own considering that the car is quite feature packed for the price it is sold at.
