The 2012 Audi Q3 crossover, which was
launched weeks ago, has gone on to become a big seller already, with all
500 units of the car being booked within days of its launch in India.
The Q3 crossover is pitted directly at the BMW X1, which in itself is a
big seller for brand BMW in the Indian SUV market. The BMW X1 is a
delightful handler with the crossover also being a hoot to drive,
especially in diesel guise, with the free revving 2 Liter, four pot
turbo diesel engine. With the Audi Q3′s arrival though, the heat is now
on BMW to protect its market share and leadership position in India.
Lo and behold, we have the facelifted
version of the BMW X1 all set to be launched in India over the next few
months. The facelifted version of the 2013 BMW X1 will get a range of
cosmetic changes, which are mild in nature, indicating a mid career
makeover for the hotly successful crossover. The facelifted 2013 X1 was
spotted at Pune ARAI certifying agency, indicating a launch being just
around the corner. The crossover will get a new front bumper, revised
styling for the headlamps, new rear view mirrors, new tail lamps and a
revised rear bumper. The alloy wheels too get a new design.
On the inside too, the 2013 BMW X1 will
get a few changes to bring it up to times. An iDrive system on the
central console and a new gear shifter are what we can discern from the
spyshot. The crossover might also get the 8 speed automatic gearbox, to
replace the 6 speeder. The new gearbox promises better performance as
well as higher fuel economy. Given that the F10 5 series and the F30 3
Series sedans benefit massively from this ZF made gearbox, the
facelifted X1 too could become a much brisker performer than ever
before.
2013 BMW X1 Crossover Facelift Rear
While Start-Stop could be made available
on the 2013 BMW X1, the crossover is expected to be available only in
rear wheel guise although BMW does have an all wheel drive system for
the X1 being sold in markets abroad. Expect the facelifted 2013 BMW X1
to be launched close on the heels of the all new F30 BMW 3 Series sedan,
which is expected to bow in during July 2012. So, a launch time frame
before the Indian festive season of Dusshera-Diwali is what can be
expected for the 2013 X1.
