German luxury car maker Audi will debut
the 3 Liter TDI V6 turbo diesel engine with twin turbo power later
today, at the LeMans racing circuit at France. The engine, which is
essentially a 3 Liter TDI V6 common rail turbo diesel unit that forms
the staple engine offering on a range of Audi and Volkswagen car models
gets twin turbochargers that pump up power and torque output by quite a
bit. Sample this, the peak power produced by the Twin Turbo equipped 3
Liter TDI engine now goes up to 309 Bhp while peak torque comes in at
640 Nm.
This much power and torque will be transmitted to all four wheels of the 2012 Audi Q5 luxury crossover through the Quattro
all wheel drive system. The transmission will consist of a 7 speed dual
clutch DSG automatic with tiptronic mode as standard. The Q5 crossover
with all that power and torque is expected to hurtle from standstill to
the ton mark in a blinding 5 seconds or near about that timing. The Q5
Crossover is also expected to come with an electronically limited top
speed number of 250 Kph. Expect sportier suspension in keeping with the
sporty appeal of this powerful crossover.
Also, a sportier body kit is expected to
be offered on the Q5 BiTurbo model. Other details about this crossover
will be revealed in the next few hours when Audi officially unwraps the
Q5 BiTurbo on the eve of the LeMans 24 hours endurance race, in a racy
setting very apt for the launch of a high performance model. Amongst
other things, Audi’s diesel engined R18 models are expected to dominate
this year’s LeMans as well, given that arch rival Peugeot isn’t in the
fray anymore, while other competitors like Toyota and the privateers are
quite far behind, as was evident at qualifying.
In India, Audi sells the Q5 crossover,
its best selling SUV model with a range of engine options, at a very
attractive price tag. The petrol engine is the 2 liter TFSI units which
come with turbocharging and direct injection. The turbo diesel engines
consist of the 2.0 TDI and the 3.0 TDI units. All these engines come
with 7 speed automatic transmissions. The luxury crossover is assembled
at Audi India’s Aurangabad assembly plant situated in Maharashtra
through completely knocked down(CKD) kits. On whether Audi India will
bring the high performance BiTurbo Q5 crossover to India is something
that remains to be seen.
