Here are a rash of new details about the
Ford Figo hatchback’s next generation model that will debut in India
during 2014. The car will replace the current Figo, which has been a
best seller for Ford India. Codenamed the B562, the next generation 2014
Ford Figo will be built at the spanking new Sanand manufacturing
facility of Ford India. The car is currently being developed by Ford
Brazil and will be launched in the Brazilian market by the end of 2013.
Like the current Figo, the next generation model is expected to be
available with both petrol and diesel engine options.
The petrol engine is expected to be the 1
Liter, three cylinder EcoBoost turbo petrol unit. While this engine
outputs 120 Bhp-170 Nm(200Nm in overboost mode), in the Focus and the
EcoSport, there’s a fat chance that it could be detuned for better fuel
economy on the next-gen Figo. considering that the award winning 1 Liter
EcoBoost engine is already a very frugal unit, the next generation Figo
could really raise the bar when it comes to fuel economy as a detuned
engine only means higher fuel efficiency. Apart from the petrol engine,
the Figo is expected to get more powerful in diesel guise.
The car is expected to use the bigger 1.5
Liter TDCI diesel engine that is currently being used on the all new
Fiesta and which will be used on the upcoming EcoSport as well. Given
than the current Ford Figo, which is an excellent handler, could do with
some more power and torque under its hood, the 1.5 Liter TDCI unit
could just be what the doctor ordered for this excellent hatchback.
Other details about this car remain a mystery at this point in time
although we’d expect the next generation 2014 Figo to retain all its
endearing traits like good space management, comfortable interiors,
excellent ride-handling and a value-for-money price tag.
Apart from the next generation Figo being
sold in India, expect Ford India to bet big on the export markets as
well, given that it already exports the current Indian-made Figo to no
less than 50 countries across the world. All in all, the initial buzz
emerging about the next generation 2014 Ford Figo sounds very positive,
with the car seemingly all set for a big upgrade across all areas. We
now will keep our eyes and ears open for test mules of the 2014 Figo,
which should begin doing the rounds, given that it will be launched in
Brazil late next year.
