2013 Ford EcoSport Crossover Spyshot

While we do know how the Ford EcoSport crossover’s production version could look like, courtesy the 2012 Beijing Motor Show, in which the production variants of this hot new product from Ford was showcased, Ford India it seems is doing away with the usual norm of heavily camouflaging test mules. One such uncamouflaged test mule of the 2013 Ford EcoSport was spotted at a toll plaza somewhere in and around Chennai, India. The uncamouflaged version appears to be the top end petrol variant given the Titanium badging and the reverse parking sensors on the bumper.

So, there we go, we could get reverse parking sensors on the top end Titanium variant and this is what the test mule reveals. Under the hood could be the 1 Liter, 3 cylinder turbo petrol engine that has received wide acclaim across the world wit the engine even going on to win the “engine of the year” award, weeks ago. The turbo petrol engine, which is both powerful as well as fuel efficient, will produce a peak power of 120 Bhp while peak torque with overboost will touch the 200 Nm mark. The engine features plenty of technological innovations making it a tech packed unit.

The other engine in the EcoSport will be a turbo diesel unit, with the 1.5 Liter four cylinder unit that powers the all new Fiesta sedan being a big possibility. The diesel engine which delivers 90 Bhp-200 Nm comes with good driveability with minimum turbo lag. The EcoSport crossover measures under 4 meters in length, giving Ford leeway to price the car quite competively. With the launch of the Renault Duster, a possible competitor for the EcoSport just around the corner, Ford will be wathing Renault’s pricing strategy and success/failure very closely.

This, as the EcoSport is expected to be launched only in early 2013, although we would n’t be surprised at the launch being advanced given that the crossover will go on sale in Brazil and China this year itself. The EcoSport will be the second car in the chain of 8 cars that Ford plans to launch in India by 2015, the first being the all new Fiesta. While Ford has suffered the ignominy of the all new Fiesta failing to take off at the hustings, primarily due to the high price at which it was launched, the American automaker will want to erase bad memories with the EcoSport. Hence, aggressive pricing for the EcoSport might be expected.
