Pulsar 200 NS Launched by Bajaj Auto in Maharashtra

The Pulsar 200 NS, Bajaj Auto’s flagship motorcycle has been launched in Pune, Maharashtra. The Pulsar 200 NS has been priced at a super competitive ex-showroom  Maharashtra price of INR 84,096, which makes it the least priced liquid cooled motorcycle in the country, a big achievement by itself. Bajaj will launch the Pulsar 200 NS in other parts of India in the coming months, in a phased manner. The Pulsar 200 NS will not replace the current air cooled 220 DTSi but will continue to sell alongside the half faired model, which continues to see strong demand.

2012 Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS Motorcycle

A fully faired version of the Pulsar 200 NS is under development but the launch time frame remains a secret for now. That said, a late 2012 or an early 2013 launch for the fully faired 200 NS is a strong possibility. Coming to the production version of the Pulsar 200 NS, there are three primary changes in the motorcycle when compared to the model showcased at the unveil. The changes are,  a 55 watt headlight, number plate position change and a new tyre hugger. This apart, the motorcycle showcased at the unveil a few months ago is very identical to the motorcycle that has already gone on sale in Maharashtra. The 200 NS is available in four colors: red, black, yellow and blue.

The Pulsar 200 NS is the most technologically advanced Bajaj motorcycle ever built. Liquid cooling, a tri-spark ignition which is a world first, monoshock suspension and an underbody exhaust are the few notable features that the Pulsar 200 NS brings to the table. Also, the Pulsar 200 NS is the first Bajaj motorcycle to feature a 6 speed manual transmission. However, the motorcycle still features a carburetor instead of fuel injection and this move by Bajaj is said to be that of one to ensure that costs of the end product are tightly controlled while also being easier to work on at service centers.

The Pulsar 200 NS is powered by a 200cc single cylinder, four stroke engine with a bottom end that shares many components with the KTM Duke 200. The engine outputs a peak power of 23.5 Bhp at 9.500 rpm while peak torque comes in at 18.3 Nm at 8,000 rpm. The 200 NS weighs 145 kilograms. Performance though, is quite spectacular with the 60 kph run from standstill being dispatched in 3.6 seconds and the 100 Kph sprint coming up in 9.8 seconds. Top speed is 136 Kph while Bajaj claims a fuel economy of 58 Kmpl when the motorcycle is ridden at a constant speed of 55 Kph. Now, if only one can ride a motorcycle like this, like that.
