General Motors India has launched the
facelifted model of the Captiva SUV. The facelifted Captiva, which was
showcased at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo comes with two engine options,
both of them being turbo diesel engines. While the base 2 Liter engine
is the same unit that used to power the previous model, the new engine
is a 2.2 Liter unit capable of generating 186.5 Bhp of peak power and
424 Nm of peak torque. This engine is mated to a 6 speed automatic
transmission while the older engine now comes only with a 5 speed manual
gearbox. The older 2 Liter turbo diesel engine produces 148 Bhp-320 Nm.
The base variant of the Captiva comes in
both two wheel drive and all wheel drive guise. The 2WD variant is
priced at INR 18.74 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi while the AWD variant is
priced at INR 19.48 lakhs. the top end Captiva 2.2 AWD variant is priced
at INR 24. 59 lakhs. All prices reflect ex-showroom Delhi figures. The
2012 Captiva SUV comes with a range of comfort features like cruise
control, Electric Parking Brake, AC vents for the third row,
rain-sensing wipers and a sunroof. Coming to the safety bits, the
Captiva gets ABS, EBD and a full complement of 6 airbags.
The 2012 Chevrolet Captiva will be
imported into the country as a completely built unit. This explains the
pricing of the SUV being on the higher side, especially for the 2.2
Liter turbo diesel enigned top end variant, which even edges out the
best selling Toyota Fortuner SUV. As of now, GM India has no plans of
CKD assembly of the Captiva, which means that the prices of the Captiva
aren’t coming down in a hurry. The Captiva has been a tepid seller for
GM in India and the car maker will hope that the facelifted model will
boost sales. However, at the current pricing levels, that appears as
unlikely as ever.
