Bajaj Auto showcased its latest
motorcycle, the Discover 125 ST sports tourer, a few weeks ago. The
showcase event did not put a price to the commuter motorcycle,
reserving that for the official launch event, which was to happen in the end of June 2012. Rumours online reveal that the 2012 Discover 125 ST may be
priced at INR 60,000 on-road Maharashtra and this figure could vary by a
few hundred rupees. At that price, Bajaj Auto will once again play the
value card to trump competition.
At INR 60,000, the 2012 Bajaj Discover
125 ST will be significantly cheaper than the likes of the Honda Shine,
the Honda Stunner, the Hero Ignitor and the Yamaha Gladiator 125, all
motorcycles that will be key competitors. 2012 Discover
125 ST offers significantly more kit and performance(on paper at least)
than all the other motorcycles we have listed above. The motorcycle
features a 125cc DTSi engine with a four valve head, that is a first in
its class. The engine outputs 13 PS of peak power at 9,000 rpm and a
peak torque of 11 Nm at 7,000 rpm.
The power and torque figure are the
highest in its class. The engine is mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox
with an electric start being offered as standard piece of kit. Bajaj
also offers the kick start as standard with the motorcycle. The front
end comes with telescopic front forks with a petal-type disc brake while
the rear features a monoshock layout, another best in class feature,
and drum brakes. The Bajaj Dsicover 125 ST comes with a wheelbase of
1,305 mm, ground clearance of 170 mm and weighs 124.5 Kilograms.
Apart from the mechanicals, Bajaj Auto
has worked on the cosmetics of the Discover ST125 to make for a much
fresher looking motorcycle than ever before although the styling is not
the most exciting or evocative in its class. The motorcycle gets a brand
new headlamp and fairing, a new instrumentation console, a new 10 liter
fuel tank with different sculpting and alloy wheels with a different
design. The side panels and the grab rail has been redesigned. Other
changes include a brand new seat, a new mudguard, a new exhaust muffler
and an exposed O-ring based drive chain, which is another best-in-class
feature. All in all, the 2012 Bajaj Discover 125 ST is a sporty commuter
motorcycle that will be available with a killer price tag across India
very soon.
