Launch of 2012 Honda Dream Yuga 110 in Mumbai with an ex-showroom price starting @ INR 48,028

Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India in its bid to become the world’s largest two wheeler maker by volumes, by displacing Hero MotoCorp, before 2020, launched a very important volumes pulling model in the form of the 2012 Dream Yuga commuter motorcycle. The 2012 Honda Dream Yuga 110 is powered by a four stroke 110cc engine good for 8.5 Bhp-8.91 Nm, very similar to the one found on the much sportier CB Twister. Honda with the Dream Yuga 110, aims to displace the largest selling two wheeler in India, the Hero Splendor, and this will be no easy task considering that the Splendor is much more cheaper. Honda claims a fuel economy figure of 72 Kmpl for the Dream Yuga.

Honda aims to target the 25 to 29 year olds in semi urban and rural India to drive sales of the Dream Yuga 110. The motorcycle comes in three variants along with premium pricing, that is significantly higher than the rest of the competition. The higher price is said to be the premium that Honda is commanding due to the brand value and recognition it enjoys in the Indian market. However, on how this price will help displace the firmly established market leader, the Hero Splendor, is something that only time can tell.

The Dream Yuga 110 comes in three variants. The base variant priced at INR 48,028 comes with spoked wheels and a kick start option. the mid level variant, priced at INR 49,592 comes with an kick start option and alloy wheels. The top end variant priced at INR 51,678 comes with both alloy wheels as well as an electric start unit. A front disc brake isn’t offered even as an option on the top end model and this comes as a disappointment. For now, 130mm drum brakes on both the front and the rear is what the Dream Yuga 110 buyer will have to make do with.

Honda will focus heavily on the entry level commuter motorcycle segment in the next couple of years to establish itself firmly in the Indian semi urban and rural markets, segments that it still has a small presence in. In line with this, the two wheeler major has come up with a brand new advertising campaign that will be aired across India in a variety of India languages. The campaign will focus on emphasizing that Honda is now a separate brand from Hero MotoCorp. This is quite important as Hero MotoCorp has a big brand name in the semi-urban and rural markets, both markets key to Honda’s aims of dominating the two wheeler segment by 2020.
