2013 Jaguar XF Sedan and XJ Luxury

The 2013 versions of the Jaguar XF sedan and the XJ luxury saloon have just been unveiled at the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed. another launch at Goodwood was the XF Sportbrake version, essentially an estate variant of the XF sedan. This car though is not very relevant to the Indian market given the traditionally poor sales estates have had to endure in this part of the world. What is very relevant indeed is the 2013 XF sedan and the XJ luxury saloon, as both cars are sold in India. The facelifts on these cars are minor with the bigger story being that of the updated engines and transmission.

The XF gets the 2 Liter, 240 Bhp-340 Nm turbo petrol engine that it borrows from the Evoque Crossover, as the entry level engine variant. This EcoBoost engine is supplied by Ford to Jaguar. The engine is quite powerful as well as fuel efficient. The other petrol engine that is available both on the 2013 XF and XJ models is the 3 Liter supercharged unit that delivers 335 Bhp of peak power and 450 Nm of peak torque. This engine also gets a start-stop system to conserve fuel in stop and go driving conditions. Both these petrol engines come with an 8 speed automatic transmission, as opposed to the 6 speed slush box that the older versions came with.

The smaller XF sedan’s 2.2 Liter turbo diesel engine is available in two states of tune. The base tune delivers 161 Bhp-400 Nm while the higher state of tune puts out 197 Bhp-450 Nm. This engine, as has been the case previously, is mated with the 8 speed automatic transmission. On the inside, both the 2013 XF and the XJ get get uprated audio systems. Another crucial change on the 2013 Jaguar XJ luxury saloon is the tweaked suspension that gets recalibrated springs and dampers to make for better ride and handling traits.

Given that both these cars are directly imported into India through the completely built unit(CBU) route, expect these changes to be reflected on the Indian models as well. Also, Jaguar does have plans of assembling the XF sedan 2.2 diesel variant in India shortly. However other Jaguar car models are expected to retain their CBU import status as their small volumes don’t justify an assembly line set up just as yet. British luxury marquees Jaguar and Land Rover are now owned by Indian car and utility vehicle major, Tata Motors Limited.
