Audi has gone sporty with the Q5
crossover and the SQ5 is the result of that. Unveiled on the eve of the
2012 LeMans 24 hours endurance race in France, the Q5 is the first
diesel engined car from Audi to get the S moniker. Talking of which,
twin turbo power is the reason for the S credentials for the burly Audi
Q5. Twin turbochargers employed on the 3 Liter, V6 common rail diesel
engine has resulted in peak power going up to 313 Bhp with the real
stuff that matters of diesel engines, the torque, coming in at a massive
650 Nm.
This power and torque is delivered to all four wheels of the 2013 Audi SQ5 crossover through the Quattro
system. An 8 speed dual clutch automatic transmission with the
tiptronic mode is what the SQ5 features. The twin turbo diesel engine is
the real story of this car, which hurtles to 100 Kph from standstill in
5.1 seconds with the top speed coming in at an electronically limited
250 Kph. Apart from the engine, Aui has outfitted the 2013 SQ5 with
sport suspension that lowers the car by 20mm to make for sharper high
speed handling while the exhaust gets a sporty sound actuator.
The crossover also gets cosmetic
treatment that goes with the S badging. The 2013 Audi SQ5 crossover
comes with 20 inch wheels as standard and a redesigned bumper. 21 inch
wheels can be ordered as standard. Also, the crossover gets a tweaked
front grille. The S-treatment continues to the interiors of the car,
which sees plenty of sports treatment. Black dominates proceedings with S
badging for a range of interior features like the gear lever knob, door
sill trims, start button, the steering wheel and the lighting package.
The crossover also gets a different looking instrumentation cluster.
The Audi SQ5 will go on sale
internationally from the first quarter of 2013. An Indian launch, if it
happens, could be scheduled for the end of 2013, although no
confirmation of this has been received yet. More and more high
performance diesel models are being unveiled by automakers across the
world. BMW has been a world leader with its tri-turbo diesel power now
making it o the famed M-range of high performance BMW cars. With Audi
joining the diesel high performance brigade now, expect more performance
cars to feature diesel power under the hood.
