Ford Brazil has unveiled the facelifted
2013 version of the Fiesta sedan at the ongoing 2012 Sau Paulo Motor
Show. The Fiesta sedan’s facelift comes a couple of years after this
model’s global unveil and is a mid career facelift for this sedan which
is quite popular in the Brazilian car market. The facelifted Fiesta
sedan’s front end is very similar to that of the hatchback version,
which also saw a facelift a few weeks ago, at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.
The Aston Martin-esque front end of the car, that is soon becoming
Ford’s family face, is the biggest change up front.
The sedan gets a reprofiled front bumper
and along with the grille gives the Fiesta sedan an aggressive look.
Some might love it which others not so much. Moving on, the car’s
profile remains bog similar to that of the current model while the rear
end of the car also sees a slight refreshing. The current Fiesta’s high
boot didn’t go well with many prospective buyers, who thought that it
was too big and too bland. Ford has attempted to address this visual
monotony through a chrome strip strategically placed on the rear bumper
of the car, and this does provide some visual respite.
The alloy wheels seem to be a new design
too, and all these changes do make the Fiesta sedan a looker. On the
inside, Ford has redesigned the center console of the car, has added a
center console, a new instrumentation display and other trim changes.
Under the hood, engines and transmissions remain unchanged with the the
1.6 Liter TiVCT petrol-ethanol flex fuel engine continuing to do duty on
the car. This engine is mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox and a 6 speed
PowerShift dual clutch automatic gearbox.
The Fiesta’s ride and handling is
exemplary, making the car a hoot to drive when the going gets twisty.
The electric power steering gets further recalibrated to deliver even
more feel and that’s something that can only be a good thing, especially
if you love driving. The suspension has seen some retuning to better
the already excellent ride and handling of the Fiesta sedan. All in all,
the facelifted 2013 Fiesta sedan seems like a worthy mid career
makeover for a fine piece of automotive engineering. Pity that the all
new Fiesta isn’t finding any takers in the Indian car market due to the
initial price botch by Ford India. Expect this facelift to come to India
sometime in late 2013 or 2014.
