Maruti Suzuki India Limited has launched the most awaited vehicle of
the year, the new Alto 800 with a prices starting from Rs 2.44 lakh
(ex-showroom, Delhi). This entry-level hatch by Maruti is expected to
fetch the same huge response as the Maruti 800 did a long-back, and it
will be sold alongside Maruti 800 (BS-III only) and the Alto K10,
although the existing Alto F8D will be discontinued in India.
As we were constantly reporting about the new Alto 800 almost all the
details are known to our regular readers, we’ll just recall the same.
The new Alto 800 is based on the existing Alto platform and is powered
by the same 796cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine (F8D) which is also doing
duty under the hood of outgoing Alto but it has re-tuned for better
power, torque and improved fuel efficient.
The changes under the hood help the new Alto to generate a maximum
power of 47.5 Bhp with maximum torque of 69 Nm. The power figures are up
by 3.5 bhp while the torque by up by 11 percent (7 nm). The mileage has
improved by 15% to 22.74 kmpl (ARAI certified). The Alto 800 is being
offered with a CNG option right away, which sees a 13% increase in
mileage to 30.46 km/kg. The CNG kit comes factory fitted and is called
as intelligent Gas Port injection technology (i-GPI).
The new Alto 800 is blessed with a completely new exterior design
which is more up market and eye catchy as compared to the previous
generation Alto. The changes include a two-part chrome grille,
high-mounted petal-shaped headlights, a sporty chin spoiler, mildly
flared wheel arches, crystal-like tail-lamps and some sculpting on the
hatch that adds a spicy touch. The interiors also get dual tone styling,
improved door trims, use of silver garnish on the interiors, 3-spoke
steering wheel design etc. to name a few.
The top-end LXi variants are equipped with convenience features like
power steering, driver airbag, front power windows, internally
adjustable ORVM, etc. While the power steering is not a part of base
Alto STD and middle range Alto LX. On the other hand AC is not available
in base variant. The new Alto will be available in 6 exciting colors
including Frost Blue, Superior White, Granite Grey, Blazing Red, Torque
Blue and Silky Silver.
