BMW India will launch the all new 3
Series sedan, a very important car for the German luxury car maker, on
the 3rd of August, 2012. The F30 3 Series sedan is the latest in the 3
series range and in its latest iteration, the car is both bigger on the
outside and the inside. A grown up 3 Series sedan is what the F30 model
actually is, with the length increasing by 93 mm, wheelbase by almost 2
inches and width by 1.5 inches. This car will be instrumental in BMW
India fending off competitor and compatriot Audi, which is close on the
heels of BMW in terms of sales figures in India.
With the F30 3 Series, BMW India will
hope to put more space between itself and Audi. While the interiors of
the new 3 series sedan are definitely roomier than the outgoing model,
the car also gets a revamp in terms of interior styling. On the outside
too, styling has been revised with an all new front and rear. The car
now looks like a smaller F10 5 Series sedan, rather than a grown up 3
series. This design philosophy is similar to what BMW adopted with the
F10 5 Series sedan which, when launched was seen by many as a smaller
version of the 7 Series luxury saloon. All in all, BMW seems to be
moving towards a family face for most of its car models and the new F30 3
Series reflects just that.
The 3 Series will be assembled through
completely knocked down(CKD) kits at BMW India’s Chennai assembly plant.
The car is expected to be first launched in diesel-only guise with
petrol engined variants to follow soon after. The highly acclaimed 2
liter, four cylinder turbo diesel engine pumping out 184 Bhp of peak
power and 380 Nm of peak torque will power the 2012 F30 3 Series. This
engine will propel the car to a top speed of 235 Kph, with acceleration
also being very impressive at 7.5 seconds for the 0-100 Kph sprint. The
engine will be mated to a choice of a 6 speed manual and an 8 speed
automatic gearbox.
In a bid to create buzz around its high
volume product, BMW India has begun showcasing the 2012 F30 3 Series in
major malls across Indian cities. The car is also being teased through
QR codes being put out in major newspapers. The carmaker has also set up
a brand new microsite with a
countdown timer for the launch of the car. BMW dealerships across the
country will begin displaying the car and offering test drives over the
next couple of weeks in the run up to the launch. The price though will
be known only at the time of the launch on the 3rd of August, 2012.
