2012 Mahindra Maxximo CNG Mini Pick Up Truck

Mahindra &Mahindra has launched the CNG version of the Maxximo mini pick up truck at Delhi. The CNG variant of this mini pick up truck is priced at INR 3.99 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. Pitted at the Tata Ace mini pick up truck, which has been the market leader in the segment it helped create, the Maxximo has been a decent success for Mahindra. The Maxximo is the only vehicle in it category to feature common rail diesel injection engine technology.

The 909cc twin cylinder CRDe turbo diesel engine features a 4 valves per cylinder DOHC layout and is much more powerful when compared to the indirect injection diesel engine that the Tata Ace comes with. The Maxximo’s diesel engine puts out 25 Bhp of peak power and 55 Nm of peak torque. the more powerful CRDe engine of the Maxximo is touted to carry bigger loads at a higher speed. This engine is mated to a four speed manual gearbox. The same engine is used on the CNG variant of the Maxximo, albeit with certain modifications to suit the CNG fuel.

The biggest advantage of CNG is the low tail pipe emissions when compared to diesel. In CNG guise, the Maxximo’s engine produces 25.6 Bhp of peak power and 57 Nm of peak torque, both figures slightly higher than the diesel version. The Maxximo CNG comes with a 80 Liter fuel tank. The mini pick up truck is rated at a payload of 0.75 tons although it isn’t uncommon to see these vehicles plying with much higher loads on Indian roads. With the launch of the CNG variant, Mahindra can now take on the CNG versions of the Tata Ace, which are already available at the market place.

Also, the pricing strategy of the Maxximo, which matches the Ace, at INR 3.99 lakhs, is quite competitive, given the more advanced engine technology on the Maxximo. Coming to the target segment of the Maxximo CNG, this pick up truck will mainly be bought by folks living in the National Capital Region(NCR) as this part of India has a strict policy of many classes of commercial vehicles registered in the region requiring to run on CNG to curb air pollution levels.
